MY PROFILE, MOVIE AND BIOGRAPHY
I'm Vernon Hoium, attorney-at-law. I have been practicing in Columbia Heights for over 40 years and I am a life-long resident. I practice in the areas of probate law, wills, real estate, elder law, powers of attorney, health care directives and small business matters. If you have questions in these areas,I encourage you to contact me.
Growing up in Columbia Heights, I attended Oak Wood Grade School and Columbia Heights High School. I founded the Columbia Heights High School Alumni Scholarship Foundation to provide scholarships to Columbia Heights High School graduates.
After high school I spent four years in military service and when I returned I entered the University of Minnesota. I obtained an undergraduate degree in history and pubic speaking and thereafter went to law school. I graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School with a Juris Doctor degree.
I have been designated by the Minnesota Bar Association as a Senior Attorney. After law school I entered politics and represented all of Anoka County in the Minnesota State Senate. During my senate career I was responsible for authoring a law which provided for a junior college in Anoka County.
I have also been very active in the health care field, having served on the board of Unity Hospital for 23 years and also being Chairman of the Board of Health Central, the predecessor of the Allina Health System in Minneapolis. Further, I was active with the American Hospital Association and served as the National Chairman of the Congress of Hospital Trustees in advocating for trustee education in the Untied States. I am also Past-president and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Crest View Nursing Home in Columbia Heights.
In addition, I served on the Board of Trustees of North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, MN. I have also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Minnesota Hospital Association and was Vice-president of Brookdale Assurance, Ltd., a captive malpractice insurance company.
In the health care field I received the Trustee of the Year award from the Minnesota Hospital Association.
I am also a Past-president of the Columbia Heights Chamber of Commerce and Past-president of the Northeast Suburban Shrine Club.
I have also received "An Alumni of Notable Achievement Award" from the College of Liberal Arts of the University of Minnesota and have been a recipient of the WCCO Radio "Good Neighbor Award".
